Kanye West is a Grammy Award winning American rapper, singer, music producer and fashion designer. He was born to parents Donda and Ray on June 8, 1977 in Atlanta, Georgia. West grew up in Chicago, Illinois, where he attended Polaris High School followed by the American Academy of Art. He studied at Chicago State University but didn’t complete a degree.

CAREER
West’s close friend and mentor No I.D. taught him how to sample and program beats. His debut as a producer was the 1996 album ‘Down to Earth’ for rapper Grav. West continued his success as a producer for Jay Z‘s Roc-A-Fella Records. He’s since produced songs for recording artists Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys and many others.

West’s debut studio album, The College Dropout, was released in 2004 at #2 on the Billboard 200. The album sold upwards of two million copies and won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. West followed up with Late Registration (2005), Graduation (2007) and 808s & Heartbreak (2008). All three albums saw commercial success. The albums Yeezus (2013) and The Life of Pablo (2016) both sold less than one million copies. West has won a number of awards including 21 Grammys, 2 AMAs and 7 BET Awards. He’s also the founder of the record label, Good Music, and the creative content company, DONDA.

West’s film credits include State Property 2 (2005) with Beanie Sigel, The Love Guru (2008) with Mike Myers and Anchorman 2 (2013) with Will Ferrell. His television appearances include Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Entourage. In addition to music, West is known for his Yeezy clothing line in collaboration with Adidas. The project consists of both menswear and footwear. The footwear collection includes the Adidas Yeezy Boost and the Adidas Yeezy Duck Boot.
